Published benchmark results and the general drift of developer discussion put Claude and ChatGPT ahead of Gemini for programming work, with Claude favored for reasoning across large codebases and ChatGPT favored for quick scripts and data work with code execution attached.

Take benchmarks lightly. They measure contained problems with known answers, and your actual work is a messy repository with a deadline attached. The more useful signal is that developers who pay for two subscriptions usually pay for these two.

The part people skip
