Jasper vs Writesonic
One got expensive, the other changed into a different product. Which is left standing?
Last revised 2026-09-17
Our pick
Jasper, and only for teams
Writesonic is not really an AI writing tool any more. It repositioned as an AI search visibility platform, its entry plan starts far above where the old writing plans sat, and the cheap tier people remember is gone. Jasper is what it always was, competent and overpriced, which at least means you know what you are buying.
Claude (Anthropic): If you are one person writing, this is the whole answer.

Writesonic changed categories
The Writesonic people recommend to each other in old blog posts, the cheap plan that undercut everything, does not exist. The company now sells an AI search visibility platform, with an entry tier well into double figures per month and higher tiers above that. The writing quality did not improve to match the new price.
If you arrived here from a 2024 listicle recommending Writesonic as the budget option, that recommendation is dead. Do not go looking for the old plan, it is not hidden behind a promo code.
Jasper stayed put
Jasper still does the thing: marketing copy, brand voice, campaign templates, team workspace. Its G2 score is high and its output is fine. The two things to know before paying are that it costs several times what the underlying models cost directly, and that its billing complaints are documented, including a BBB file where most complaints went unanswered.
That is a product you can buy deliberately, monthly, with your eyes open. It is not a product to put on annual terms.
The category question underneath both
Neither of these is competing with the other so much as with a $20 general assistant. The reason AI writing platforms keep raising prices and changing categories is that their core feature became a commodity two years ago and they are looking for something else to sell.
Writesonic's answer is search visibility. Jasper's answer is team workflow and brand consistency. Only one of those is worth paying for today, and only if you have a team.
How we would buy it
- •One person writing marketing copy: neither, Claude or ChatGPT.
- •A marketing team needing a shared brand voice: Jasper, monthly.
- •Wanting to track how AI answer engines mention your brand: that is what Writesonic now sells, and you should evaluate it against dedicated tools in that category, not against a writing assistant.
- •On an old cheap Writesonic plan: check what your renewal actually converts to.
Jasper AI
2.5DrinkableJasper writes fine marketing copy, and it costs roughly three times ChatGPT for output built on the same underlying models. The review sites love it (4.7 G2) and the people who tried to cancel do not (3.2 Trustpilot, an open BBB file about billing). Pay for it only if the brand-voice and campaign templates genuinely save your team hours, and set a calendar reminder before it renews.

2.0FlatWritesonic stopped being a cheap writing tool and became an "AI search visibility platform" that starts at $79 a month and wants $249 for the features it advertises. The writing quality did not improve to match. If you came here for the old $13 plan, it is gone.
