What Canva Magic Studio Actually Costs in 2026

Canva stopped publishing a credit number. That is the story.

What you are actually buying

A shared monthly AI allowance expressed as a multiple of the free tier, plus a paid AI Pass add-on and top-ups.

Advertised: Free plan, then $12/moFixed Magic Studio credit counts replaced by a shared monthly AI allowance, roughly 20 uses on Free, more on Pro ($144/yr), with a paid AI Pass add-on and top-ups.

Do the maths

  • =There is no published credit figure to multiply, so you cannot forecast this plan the way you can forecast a credit-priced one.
  • =The allowance resets on your billing date rather than the first of the month, so a mid-month upgrade does not reset it.
  • =The AI Pass is an add-on, meaning AI capacity is a second purchase on top of the subscription.

Worked from rates the vendor publishes. We do not estimate your usage, because we cannot know it, and a made-up average is worse than no number.

Where the bill surprises people

  • !Fixed Magic Studio credit counts were replaced by a vague shared allowance, so the number you could once plan against no longer exists.
  • !Canva raised Teams pricing by just over 300% for some legacy plans, announced by email, and pointed at Magic Studio as the justification.
  • !Standard AI tools draw from the same shared pool on Free and the cheaper paid tier, so multiple features compete for one allowance.

Worth it if

You are a non-designer who needs acceptable output fast, and Canva is already how your team makes things.

Not worth it if

You need to forecast AI capacity. An unpublished allowance cannot be budgeted, and that is a deliberate choice by the vendor.

The missing number

Canva used to publish credit counts for Magic Studio. It does not any more. What you get now is a shared AI allowance, described relative to the free tier rather than as a figure, with a paid AI Pass add-on and top-ups available when it runs out.

You cannot plan against that. Every other credit-priced tool on this site lets you do arithmetic: a rate times your usage gives you a cost. Here there is no rate to multiply. If AI capacity is the reason you are upgrading, you are buying an amount the vendor declines to state.

The 300% that tells you where this is going

Canva raised Teams pricing by just over 300% for some legacy plans, announced it by email, and pointed at Magic Studio as the justification. Read that as a statement of intent: AI is the reason given for the price rising, and the AI allowance is unpublished.

That combination is worth noticing before you standardise a team on it.

To be fair to the product

For people who are not designers, Canva remains the easiest way to get something acceptable out the door, and its AI features are the least annoying implementation of the lot. Nothing here is an argument that the tool is bad. It is an argument that you cannot tell what you are buying.

What we would do

  • Small team already on Canva: keep going, treat the AI as a bonus rather than a capacity you can rely on.
  • Deciding on AI capacity specifically: pick a tool that publishes a rate, so you can forecast it.
  • On a legacy Teams plan: check what your renewal converts to well before it renews.

What changed, with sources

Canva's current pricing page no longer states fixed Magic Studio credit counts; AI access is a vague shared 'AI allowance' expressed as multiples of Free (Free capped at ~20 uses), with a paid 'AI Pass' add-on and top-ups sold separately.

Canva's help centre confirms the allowance model: Standard AI tools draw from the shared monthly allowance on Free and Pro Lite, and the allowance resets on the billing date rather than as a published credit number.
