What you are actually buying
Metered credit allocations per plan, with a free tier that is a one-time grant rather than a monthly allowance.

Where the bill surprises people

- !G2 sits near 3.9 while Trustpilot is around 1.5, and the gap is mostly people who tried to pay or cancel.
Worth it if
You present in the browser, share a link rather than a file, and want a good-looking deck faster than PowerPoint allows.
Not worth it if
Your deck has to arrive as a PowerPoint file. The export is where this product falls over, and that is the normal way decks get delivered.
The free tier is a trial
Gamma's free plan gives you 400 credits once. They do not refill next month. You can earn more by referring people or by upgrading, and that is the entire mechanism.
Calling that a free tier is a stretch. It is an unlimited-duration trial, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to offer and a different thing from what most people assume when they read free. If you are relying on it for ongoing work, you are on a countdown that has not told you it is a countdown.
The export problem is the real cost
This matters more than the credits. Gamma's own web format is genuinely nice, and presenting from the browser works well. Exporting to .pptx breaks fonts, formatting and animations.
Most decks in most organisations get emailed as a file, dropped into a shared drive, or handed to someone else to present. If that is how yours travel, the tool's best output is the one format you cannot use, and you will rebuild the deck in PowerPoint anyway. Test that path with one real deck before you subscribe.
The score gap
G2 has it near 3.9, Trustpilot near 1.5. The G2 reviews are largely about making decks, which Gamma is good at. The Trustpilot reviews are largely about billing, cancellation and export, which it is not. Both are describing the same product honestly.
What we would do
- •Browser-first presenting, link sharing, internal use: worth the money, buy monthly.
- •Client decks delivered as files: test the .pptx export on a real deck first. Most people stop there.
- •On the free plan and wondering why it stopped working: it did not break, the one-time grant ran out.
