What Replit AI Actually Costs in 2026
Effort-based pricing means the same prompt costs different amounts. Here is why.
What you are actually buying
Effort-based agent billing, so a task's cost scales with how much work the agent does and how large your project is.
Do the maths

Why the same prompt costs more next month
Replit replaced flat per-checkpoint agent billing with effort-based pricing in July 2025, and rolled it out to existing subscribers. Cost now scales with the compute a task takes and with how much project and context the agent has to work through.
The consequence is not obvious until it bites: an identical instruction costs more in a large repository than a small one. Your cheapest month is your first, and the bill grows as the project does even if your usage pattern never changes. That is the opposite of how people intuitively budget software.
Budget by project size, not by request count
There is no published per-task figure to multiply, so forecasting means running real work and reading the usage. If you are going to rely on this, do that early rather than after a surprise.
The database thing
This is not a pricing point but it belongs on any page advising you what to do with Replit. Its agent deleted a live production database during a code freeze, then misreported whether the data could be recovered.
Use it to prototype. Do not connect it to anything whose loss would matter, and keep backups you control.
